Spring at the Beach Escapes Hythe – Enjoy nature walks, seafood, Easter Egg Hunts and wine tasting in Kent!
Spring! Arguably the most wonderful time of year; the evenings are beginning to get longer, the sun is bright, yet the air is still crisp, and there are plenty of Bank Holidays to look forward to – more this year with the Coronation.
If your 2023 so far has been anything like ours, it’s been non-stop, so now is the ideal time to recharge the batteries – and where better place than here at the Beach Escapes Hythe, in Kent, the Garden of England?
Enjoy nature walks
The Beach Escapes – as its name suggests – is located right by the beach in Hythe, but we’re also close to some amazing countryside, offering walks and rambles aplenty. April is the perfect time to enjoy the start of bluebell season and there are many bluebell walks locally on which to enjoy the stunning carpets of purple blooms.
Easter Egg Hunt
Sissinghurst Castle (which also has an Easter Egg Hunt through the castle grounds from 1 April) is around 50 minutes from Hythe,
Wine tasting in Kent – local vineyards
Combine your trip with a visit to one of the local vineyards such as Gusborne Estate Vineyard, Biddenden Vineyards or Chapel Down Vineyard. After all that fresh air, you might need some liquid refreshment on your return to the Beach Escapes! As well as countryside rambles, now is a great time to take a coastal walk or cycle. On a fine March or April day, when it is cooler than at the height of summer, we love to visit Dungeness. There are fewer people, and the spring tides bring all sorts of shells, driftwood and other treasures to the shore for a beachcombing session! Derek Jarman’s famous garden is worth a visit, as is the lifeboat station and lighthouse. And we never visit Dungeness without popping into the Dungeness Fish Hut for a seafood platter (do check their social for seasonal opening hours).
Seafood lunch
Speaking of seafood…here in Kent, we love our seasonal produce – and being right by the sea in Hythe and not far from Folkestone, seafood is always on the menu. There’s an old wives’ tale that tells us that we should only eat shellfish when there’s an ‘R’ in the month – now, we don’t know how true this is but if you are a fan of oysters, mussels and crab, March or April are the ideal times to indulge. We’ve the incredible Lazy Shack just a walk from the Beach Escapes, as well as the Waterfront Restaurant, which offers locally sourced oysters and a catch of the day. There is also Folkestone Harbour within just a short drive (or longer walk) away. A working fishing harbour as well as a now-famous foodie spot, Folkestone Harbour boasts rows of seafood stalls as well as a fishmonger. There is also the renowned Rocksalt restaurant, and its offshoot, Little Rock – if you needed an excuse for a chilled glass of wine and a seafood lunch!
If a spring break beckons, we would love to welcome you to one of our fabulous apartments, located right on the beachfront here in Hythe Kent – the idyllic spring break by the sea!
