Luxury hotel-style accommodation, just a short hop to Eurotunnel terminal and the Port of Dover
As a family we love travelling, and The Beach Escapes has been designed especially for those who love experiencing new places as much as we do. In fact, one of our main reasons for settling here in Hythe was the town’s proximity to the Eurotunnel and the ferries at Dover (you can’t beat a ferry breakfast to start the journey!) so that we can get to our favourite European destinations whenever we get the chance!
Many of our guests spend a few days unwinding at The Beach Escapes before heading to the continent – or in reverse! We are located just 10 minutes away from Junction 11A on the M20, which is the exit for the Eurotunnel terminal, and only 25 minutes from the ferry terminal at Dover so there are plenty of options for getting across the channel.
Eurotunnel terminal and the Port of Dover
For those of you who have never taken a trip on the Eurotunnel; you drive onto the train at the terminal between Hythe and Folkestone and drive off a mere 35 minutes later in Calais. The Eurotunnel terminal offers numerous take-away options, an AA shop, a great duty-free selection and well-stocked WH Smith for all your holiday reading materials and, once you get on the train, there is even free WiFi on board! You can easily take your pets (as long as the paperwork is in place) and – by the time you have settled in the carriage, stretched your legs or had a quick power nap, it’s time to disembark! For those who like a little luxury and no hanging around, there is also the option of upgrading to FlexiPlus, with its dedicated check-in and private lounge and complimentary refreshments!
Travel by Ferry to France
If you are travelling by ferry, the short drive from Hythe down to the Port of Dover takes you past Samphire Hoe, which is a man-made nature reserve created from almost 5 million cubic metres of spoil extracted during the construction of the Channel Tunnel. It’s a great walk and the perfect spot from which to view the famous White Cliffs of Dover. As you head into the port, you will see Dover Castle – one of England’s most impressive coastal castles – majestically poised at the top of the cliffs. Dover is home to a number of cruise lines, and it is quite a sight to see the ships lined up in the dock – especially the Disney cruise ships and their fabulous Mickey Mouse funnels!
Why not combine a stay at the Beach Escapes with a mini break to France or Belgium? Ypres in Belgium is central to the sombre battlefields. The cemeteries, memorials and war museums honour the battles that took place in the region during World War I and are a hugely moving experience. Bruges, famous for its lace and chocolate is also well worth a trip, as is the coastal town of De Haan with its many restaurants and great cycling paths. The stunning French towns of Arras and Montreuil sur Mer are also perfect venues for a day trip, as is the incredible aquarium, Nausicaa in Boulogne. All of these are within just 90 minutes of Calais.
Do get in touch if you would like to book one of our fabulous apartments, located right on the beachfront here in Hythe Kent – the perfect opportunity to combine an idyllic Kentish break with seeing something of Europe!
